Maison Matera operates its online store, website and related services, including through the Shopify platform. This Privacy Policy describes how Maison Matera collects, uses, discloses, retains and protects personal information in the course of its activities, including when you use its website, make a purchase, create an account, communicate with it or use its services.

In the event of a conflict between Maison Matera’s Terms and Conditions or Conditions of Sale and this Privacy Policy, this Privacy Policy prevails with respect to the collection, use, disclosure, retention and protection of personal information.

1. Personal information we may collect

Depending on your interaction with Maison Matera, we may collect, among other things, the following categories of personal information:

  • Contact information: name, address, billing address, shipping address, telephone number and email address.
  • Account information: account credentials, preferences, settings and information required to manage the customer account.
  • Transaction information: products viewed, added to cart, purchased, returned or cancelled, order history, service requests and transaction-related information.
  • Payment information: information required to process a payment and payment confirmation. Sensitive payment data, including full card numbers, is generally processed by Shopify or the applicable payment providers; Maison Matera does not necessarily retain this data itself.
  • Communications: information contained in your emails, forms, service requests, notices, claims or other communications with Maison Matera.
  • Technical and usage information: IP address, device type, browser, technical identifiers, browsing data, interaction with the site and similar technologies, to the extent permitted by law and in accordance with applicable privacy settings.

2. Sources of personal information

We may collect personal information directly from you, automatically when you use our site or services, from Shopify and our service providers, and from partners or third parties where permitted by law.

3. Purposes of collection and use

We may use personal information in particular to:

  • process and manage orders, payments, deliveries, returns, exchanges, warranties and claims;
  • create, administer and secure a customer account;
  • communicate with you and provide customer service;
  • arrange delivery, installation, storage, logistics, dropshipping or other services related to an order;
  • personalize and improve the shopping experience and services;
  • prevent fraud, protect the security of our systems and enforce our terms;
  • comply with our legal, tax, accounting, contractual and administrative obligations;
  • conduct marketing and send promotional communications where permitted by law and in accordance with your consent choices.

4. Disclosure to third parties

Maison Matera may disclose the personal information necessary to third parties involved in providing its services, including:

  • Shopify and technology providers that operate or support our online store;
  • payment providers;
  • product manufacturers and suppliers where necessary to fulfill an order;
  • warehouses, carriers, logistics providers, dropshipping partners, installers and other service providers necessary for the preparation, shipment, delivery, installation or return of an order;
  • professional, IT, cloud, analytics, marketing or support service providers;
  • authorities, courts or organizations where required or permitted by law.

We disclose only the information reasonably necessary for the relevant purposes and remain responsible for the obligations imposed on us under applicable laws.

5. Relationship with Shopify

The Maison Matera online store uses Shopify. Shopify may collect and process certain personal information relating to your access to and use of the store in order to provide and improve its services. Certain information you submit may be transmitted to Shopify and its subprocessors in accordance with Shopify’s applicable terms and policies.

Certain Shopify features may also use data resulting from your interactions with Maison Matera, Shopify or other merchants. Where Shopify acts for its own purposes, Shopify is responsible for the corresponding processing under its own policies. Maison Matera remains responsible for its own privacy and personal information protection obligations.

6. Cookies, tracking technologies, personalization and advertising

Our site may use cookies and similar technologies necessary for the operation of the store, security, analytics, personalization or marketing.

Where the law requires a choice or consent for certain identification, location or profiling technologies, Maison Matera seeks to configure these functions in accordance with applicable requirements and the privacy settings offered to users.

The advertising or marketing tools actually enabled may change. This policy will be updated when significant changes to our practices require it.

7. Third-party sites and services

Our site may contain links to sites or services operated by third parties. Their use is subject to their own policies and terms. Maison Matera is not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites or services.

8. Minors

Maison Matera’s services are not intended for minors and Maison Matera does not knowingly seek to collect personal information from them. If you believe that a minor has inappropriately provided us with personal information, please contact the person responsible for the protection of personal information.

9. Security, retention and destruction

Maison Matera implements reasonable measures to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, loss or modification. However, no system can guarantee absolute security.

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and to comply with our legal, tax, accounting, contractual and administrative obligations. When it is no longer required, it is destroyed or anonymized in accordance with our retention practices and applicable laws.

10. Transfers and processing outside Quebec

Certain service providers, including Shopify and other technology providers, may process or retain personal information outside Quebec or Canada.

Before disclosing personal information outside Quebec where required by law, Maison Matera takes the required measures, including the applicable privacy impact assessment, in order to assess the risks and ensure that the information receives adequate protection in the circumstances.

11. Your rights and choices

Subject to the conditions and exceptions provided by applicable laws, you may request, among other things:

  • access to personal information that Maison Matera holds about you;
  • correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • deletion, cessation of dissemination or de-indexing where these rights apply;
  • portability of certain information where provided by law;
  • information about the use and disclosure of your information;
  • withdrawal of your consent where processing is based on your consent, subject to restrictions provided by law and information that Maison Matera must retain or use to fulfill its contractual, legal or administrative obligations.

You may also unsubscribe from marketing communications using the unsubscribe mechanism provided. Non-promotional communications related to an order, an account or an administrative obligation may nevertheless continue to be sent to you.

12. Requests and complaints

Any request for access, correction or withdrawal of consent, or any complaint concerning the protection of personal information, may be addressed to Maison Matera’s person responsible for the protection of personal information.

Maison Matera may request reasonable information to verify your identity before processing a request. Requests are handled within the time limits provided by applicable law.

13. Changes to the policy

Maison Matera may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to its practices, services or legal or regulatory requirements. Any significant change will be brought to the attention of the persons concerned in the manner required by law. The most recent version will be published on Maison Matera’s website with its effective date.
